GERGELY, Claradell 2313 Sahalee Drive East, Sammamish, WA
98074-6317
(425) 868-0260
Married Name: Shedd
Spouse's Name: Harry
Email address: [email protected]
A review of what I have written on past North High questionnaires reveals that I may be repetitious with this...married (at West Point) to Harry for 45 years. Drake University; KRNT-TV; CBS Network; U.S. Dept. of State (Foreign Service); Legal secretary to 21 lawyers; Executive Secretary to CEO of Electronics firm in California (LTV); Office Mgr.,/Executive Secretary to CEO/Restaurant chain of 3,000 restaurants throughout the world; Carl Karcher (Carl's Jr.); at The Boeing Company in Seattle for 33 years as Executive Secretary to seven vice-presidents and one president and, for the last ten years there, as specialist in computing; pursued MCSE (Microsoft certification) and graduated magna cum laude (web design and graphics certification) which has opened up fascinating opportunities. Have completed about twenty websites this year. BETA testing at Microsoft. Am going back to work again. My note to you in June, 1998, indicated I had just gotten a new 3.2GB computer, which I thought was great. How obsolete! I now sit at my new equipment ...120GB/ and 1.4G RAM, etc. Last scan indicated I had over 275,000 files on just this one computer. A computer built for my file storage and backup just arrived...500GB (four hard drives)! Have wired the house with our server, hub, six workstations, six printers, two scanners, digital camera, DSL, analog, etc. and utilize these about ten hours daily for various graphic and web site assignments. Am in quilting group where I usually complete at least one quilt a month. Won blue ribbon at Washington State Fair for a quilt two years ago which resulted in presentation to 8,000 graphic designers at Seattle Center on computer technology used in quilt. Update: Special exhibit of this quilt at 2003 Fair viewed by 120,000 at quilt pavilion. Still host/house five-member women's collegiate golf team annually. In our backyard, Sahalee ("high, heavenly ground") hosted the PGA and had a great time with Fanny Sunesson (Nick Faldo's caddie) and the NEC with Steve Williams (Tiger Woods's caddie) staying with us for those respective weeks. In both tournaments, Harry was walking scorer (he had the final twosomes in both tournaments), and I worked in Media with 1000 reporters and broadcasters. An LPGA player now calls our house her home base. Sahalee tournament in July brings the Australian National Men's Team to our house. (Harry and I score this tournament with relational databases.) Update: one of our Australian house guests went on to win the U.S. Men's Amateur Championship at Oakmont. Still have garden tours every summer. For our annual Christmas miniature village tours held here daily from Thanksgiving to New Years, we have around 500 come through the house. Largest single crowd was 100 people in two chartered buses...they come from everywhere, learning about it from local newspapers/TV and word of mouth. We sometimes have three groups per day and, since the tours are personalized, I spend about three computer hours preparing for each group. Groups begin booking in July. We still collect and enjoy the work of Rie Munoz, Juneau watercolorist. Have been spending more time at mountain cabin since I got a shuttle computer and an ISP up there. (Can't afford to be away from that online contact, since we get about 150 emails daily!) Harry has been teaching various computer classes at SeniorNet, an international organization to train those over 50 who wish to learn computing skills. His oldest student is 92! Visit Fitness Center daily, and we are grateful for marvelous health/energy and the excitement that life introduces around every corner. Desiring to be succinct, I obviously exhibit a verbose writing habit (but 50 years is a long time!). Abundant blessings to each of you of His ever-present peace, hope, and joy. My memories of you are fond indeed.
Entry from my North High Hall of Fame website:
05/05/05: Claradell (Gergely) Shedd, orphaned at six by a tornado which claimed the lives of both of her parents, lived thereafter with relatives and friends, to include a farm and mining community in southern Iowa, before making her home with acquaintances of her late parents during her elementary, Warren Harding, and North High days. A child of the Depression, Claradell learned early and applied well the work ethic and discipline to serve her significantly in the future. After North High graduation, came Drake and KRNT Radio-TV, followed by the U. S. Foreign Service in Washington, D.C. Married in 1958 at West Point, Claradell and her husband, Harry, traveled and lived worldwide, with Claradell being employed as a legal secretary, special assistant to the CEO of Carl's Jr. restaurants (now Hardee's), executive assistant to the CEO and president of Ling Electronics (eventually LTV/Ling-Temco-Vought; electronics/aerospace firm in Texas/Southern California); and, with her husband's transfer to Seattle, she served as assistant to seven vice presidents and the president of The Boeing Aerospace Company, where she received many awards and accolades. During this 33-year tenure at Boeing, she received her B.A. in business, ensued by considerable post graduate study. Following Boeing, in pursuit of academic credentials emphasizing web and graphic design, she graduated magna cum laude, acknowledged at commencement by the president of the college as "the overachiever of the class." Claradell has worked full time for seven years (as of 04/10) on the creation of several websites as a "gift to her 1953 class and to the spirit of North High," encompassing classes from 1893 to present. Acknowledged as the finest high school archive in the nation and awarded a university citation as a "model website," industry has placed a substantial dollar value on the continually expanding site. http://ndmhs.com  Over 5,000 monthly accesses are regularly recorded for the four North High sites. Claradell's 36 websites generate over 250,000 accesses a month. Her interests include snow skiing in the Cascades, golf at our "back yard" Sahalee course, quilting...a quilt a month (100+ shown online, http://www.hshedd.com/quilts/index.html), conducting garden tours/roses (blue ribbons in competition), gift wrapping (seminar/cruise presentations, http://www.hshedd.com/gift%20wrapping/index.html), blue ribbons for her floral arrangement designs, conducting annual holiday tours of miniature villages in their home (500 visitors per Christmas season); and teaching needlepoint, sewing, tailoring, interior design, and crafts. In the art field, Claradell is a nationally recognized authority on water color. Computing skills include relational databases for golf scoring at Junior America's Cup, men's amateur, and women's collegiate tournaments, as well as working media in PGA, NEC, and U.S. Senior Open events. Websites on her home page number approximately thirty-six. Computer photographic restoration work (Emma Case Moulton) now hangs in the halls of old North High. At one time active golfers themselves, Claradell and her husband now regularly host collegiate, amateur, and professional golfers playing in local tournaments, as well as assisting golfers in getting started in the professional ranks. In the 1980's, they sponsored six immigrants who lived with them during the orientation phase. Professionally, Claradell is active in Phi Theta Kappa, international scholastic honor society, and Phi Gamma Nu, co-ed business fraternity. She is currently working on an autobiography of her life. Claradell and her husband volunteer as WA State ombudsmen advocating for the rights and dignity of seniors, being presently assigned to facilities housing over 500 seniors. Credo: "Attitude more than age determines energy." Additional interests can be viewed at hshedd.com .   Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart.
