Gene E. Geissinger, 69, died Sunday, August 15, 2004 at Kavanaugh
House on 56th. Services are 11 a.m. Thursday, August 19 at Hamilton's Funeral
Home with burial in the Resthaven Cemetery. Gene was born in Perry,
Iowa and lived in West Des Moines most of his adult life. He graduated from North
High and received a BA from Southern Illinois University. He served in the US
Army and was a member if the West Des Moines United Methodist Church, Toastmasters
International and Paralyzed Veterans of America. He won several Archery gold medals
in Paralympic games and toured with teams throughout the world. Gene was involved
with hunting and handgun competition (Iowa National Guard) trapshooting, and bowling.
He was the original commissioner for Iowa Housing Finance Authority and was appointed
by both Gov. Ray and Brandstad, served on the Iowa Family Farm Development Authority
and Commission for Persons with Disabilities. Gene is survived by his wife,
Joann of West Des Moines; daughter, Brenda (Ardan) Behrens-Maquoketa; son, Bradley
of West Des Moines; granddaughters, Shonda Geissinger and Bobbi Anderson; grandsons,
Bradley Jr. and Chad Anderson; great grandson, Traey. He was preceded in death
by his parents and twin brother. Visitation will be Wednesday after 11 a.m.
with family present from 5 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. Memorials may be directed
to the Des Moines Food Pantry. |
